Μέχρι στιγμής δίνω στα review του νέου Animal Collective ένα review της τάξης του 4.5
ΟΚ, για να το δούμε και σοβαρά: η όλη (παρα)φιλολογία περί indie αριστουργήματος έχει καθαρά ιντερνετική βάση. Υποθέτω πως, 10-15 χρόνια πριν, τα περιοδικά θα «φέρονταν» αλλιώς σε ένα τέτοιο άλμπουμ. Γιατί αριστούργημα δεν είναι σίγουρα το ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’ (μερικά tracks μετά την 4η-5η ακρόαση του δίσκου τα κάνω skip)- είναι όμως ο καλύτερος τους δίσκος by far. Αυτό είχε φανεί από τα live τους, κι από το ‘Person Pitch’ ήδη. Ευτυχώς ακολούθησαν αυτό το δρόμο, κι όχι αυτόν του ‘Strawberry Jam’. Εν ολίγοις: μερικά σπουδαία tracks, άλλα στα οποία ακούγονται σαν πειραματισμοί εφήβων με Casio toys, σωστή δόση ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής (αλλά μην ακούω αηδίες περί techno). Πάλι καλά που ό,τι δοκιμάζουν το κατέχουν (κι αυτό γιατί είναι Αμερικανοί). Αν δεν τους έχεις ξανακούσει ποτέ, ξεκίνα από εδώ. Who gives a fuck about Pitchfork, anyway?
Πάντως το εξώφυλλο δε μ’αρέσει καθόλου.

These are Anco fan stereotypes:
a) the bros who are waaay too connected to ‘new bands’ and ‘music news’ and ‘whatz goin on’ in the world of independent music
b) bros who ‘don’t care about what’s going on in the altmusicsphere’ because they ‘only care about how music makes them FEEL’
c) bros who pretend to only care about judging music based on ‘how it sounds’ but secretly check P4k rankings on a weekly basis to construct what they ‘like’ based on how they perceive the masses are digesting new content."
