Η έκπληξη της χρονιάς από εκεί που δεν το περίμενα. Δεν ξέρω τι συνέβη στη ζωή του Steven Wilkinson και πέταξε ό,τι περιττό από πάνω του κι έφτιαξε αυτό το μινιμαλιστικό ποίημα, ένα άλμπουμ σαν αυτά που λείπουν απ'τη δισκογραφία του William Basinski και θα έφτιαχνε ο Harold Budd ή ο Lubomyr Melnyk αν κατέβαζε στροφές. Οι τίτλοι των κομματιών είναι τοπία στην Ουαλία και τα συνοδευτικά βίντεο σε μεταφέρουν σε μέρη που πάγωσε ο χρόνος. Ο ambient δίσκος της χρονιάς. Sheer Beauty.

Το 'We Never Came To The White Sea', η συνεργασία του Johan Agebjörn με τον (ιερέα απ'ό,τι διαβάζω) Mikael Ögren είναι ένα soundtrack για ένα road movie που δεν έγινε ποτέ. Στα χνάρια του Klaus Schulze και των Tangerine Dream (αλλά και του Pete Namlook και του Wolfgang Voigt), φτιάχνουν ένα heavy-synthesized album με μεγάλες συνθέσεις, ιδανικές για ταξίδι. Και φυσικά έχει τους καλύτερους τίτλους κομματιών της χρονιάς:

03. Four Tet-New Energy [Text] 
Το 2017 ήταν η χρονιά που μου συνέβη το εξής: ενώ έβαζα ανυποψίαστος να ακούσω ένα άλμπουμ χωρίς να δώσω ιδιαίτερη σημασία, σταματούσα την ακρόαση για να τσεκάρω αν όντως ακούγεται ο ίδιος καλλιτέχνης, αυτός που γνώριζα, ή έκανα εγώ λάθος-- την πρώτη φορά έγινε με τον δίσκο του Ariel Pink, μετά με των (σχεδόν αγνώριστων) Ulver, στη συνέχεια με τον Four Tet, κι ακόμα μία με ένα από τα 2 εναπομείναντα άλμπουμ της εικοσάδας. Ένας μουσικός που σχεδόν είχα ξεγράψει μετά το 'Pink' και τις (ας το παραδεχτούμε πια) βαρετές συνεργασίες με τον Burial. Είναι γεμάτο ιδέες το 'New Energy', και δεν έχει να αποδείξει τίποτα, δεν το αφορά καμία ταμπέλα και κανένα genre. Συναίσθημα.
